Characters, Characters, and More Characters

I really enjoy creating characters on paper. I draw lots of faces and bodies, all with different colors, moods, and personalities. When the page is full, I cut them out one by one with scissors.

Cutting the characters out feels relaxing. I like holding them in my hand while I work. I also like seeing them lined up before I cut them apart. It’s like a world of characters waiting to come alive.

Finished drawing my characters, now I'm cutting them out.

Organizing My Characters

After I cut them out, I spread them across a table or on the floor. I sort them into groups that feel right:

Some are silly Some are calm Some are brave Some tell stories

The sorting part is just as fun as the drawing part. I like organizing the characters into teams, families, or friends. Sometimes I change my mind and move them around again.

Carrying Them Around

Sometimes I carry the characters with me for a few days or a few weeks. They make me feel happy, like I always have something creative with me. I keep them in a stack or in a pocket or just beside me while I sit or watch TV.

The characters feel like company.

Throwing Them Away to Start Again

When I’m finished with them, I throw them away and start new characters. It doesn’t feel sad. It feels like I’m ready for more ideas. Drawing is the part I love most.

Sketch Pads Still Make Me Smile

I have always loved sketch pads. I used to get them as gifts all the time. Blank paper gives me a place to make new characters, new colors, new moods, and new worlds.

I still draw today. Just not as much as before. But when I do, the same happy feeling comes back.

Drawing and creating characters has always been a part of me.
